Sad?

When I listen to sad music, I often hear people say "why are you listening to depressing songs? are you ok?". The question is, do I really have to be depressed for liking something sad?

In most parts of the world, where the growth of the pop culture in the musical industry is shaping up towards rap/edm genre, it has almost become the societal norm to like those genre. For example, you would miss out on the hype of when a new popular song comes out or you would feel annoyed when no one in the party has the same music taste as yours. To relate to my first statement, it might be the cause of why people are assuming that I am sad when I always listen to something sad. Sad songs are not trendy, nor are they hype. They are a completely different type of music from the current trend, which can leave people questioning about our seemingly abnormal taste. But the truth is, it is far more than what they might have thought.

No. But why do I still listen to sad songs, or watch sad movies, or read sad stories? Because I like listening to sad songs, watching sad movies and reading sad stories. It is as simple as that. I love the deep meaning that it conveys and the potent emotions it provides in words or melody. It makes me feel like I am being taken into a meaningful journey of discovering myself, and it can even be my motivation to stay strong and positive (contradictory to what it seems like eh?). Of course, there are times where hype songs would fit my mood best. But the message I am trying to convey is that my interests do not correlate with what I really feel. My interests are simply something that I like, not what really defines me.
